Jen Helsby
Jen Helsby (@redshiftzero) is a core engineer at Penumbra Labs. Prior to joining Penumbra Labs, she was the lead developer for the SecureDrop project which enables private communications between journalists and their sources, and a postdoctoral researcher at the Center for Data Science and Public Policy at the University of Chicago. In a former life, she studied the large-scale structure of the universe, and completed a Ph.D. in astrophysics at the University of Chicago in 2015.
Kenny Foner
Kenny Foner (@plaidfinch) is a core engineer at Penumbra Labs. Previously, they were a senior software engineer at Bolt Labs leading the implementation of private layer-2 payment channels, and a research engineer at Galois working on the Cryptol formal verification ecosystem and the ElectionGuard encrypted verifiable voting system. They hold a Masters of Science in programming language theory from the University of Pennsylvania. Their mildly viral talks about mental health in graduate school have reached a global audience of thousands, both in and beyond computer science academia. If they are late to a party, it’s because they made friends with a stray cat.
Chris Czub
Chris Czub (@chrisczub) is a core engineer at Penumbra Labs. Previously, Chris had a variety of jobs in computer security, such as leading the security program at a secrets-storage startup, securing autonomous vehicles at Cruise, teaching malware analysis and reverse engineering courses at Eastern Michigan University, and performing security research and prototype development as a member of Duo Labs. Chris has spoken at a variety of security conferences on multiple continents, organizes the Ann Arbor-based A2Y.ASM conference, and has two cats and a giant dog.
Ava Howell
Ava Howell (@avhwl) is a core engineer at Penumbra Labs. Previously, she was a principal security engineer at NCC Group's Cryptography Services, providing design and implementation reviews for a variety of clients for everything from novel blockchain consensus systems and smart contracts to custom cryptographic protocols, as well as doing research in cryptography and systems security. Prior to that, she was a core developer at Nebulous Labs working on Sia, a blockchain-based marketplace for data storage.
